(Total Totality)
{lamp/}原文:{mtitle title="Total Totality"/}Image Credit &Copyright:Daniel KoronaExplanation: Baily's beadsoften appear at the boundaries of thetotal phase of an eclipse of the Sun.Pearls of sunlight still beaming through gaps in therugged terrain alongthe lunar limb silhouette, their appearance is recordedin this dramatic timelapse composite. The series of images follows the Moon's edge frombeginning through the end of totality during April 8's solar eclipsefrom Durango, Mexico. They also capture pinkish prominences of plasmaarcing high above the edge of the active Sun.One of the first places in North America visited by theMoon's shadowon April 8, totality in Durango lasted about 3 minutes and 46 seconds.

(Looking Back at an Eclipsed Earth)
2024年03月24日:日全食时的地球-(Looking Back at an Eclipsed Earth)--原图下载{mtitle title="日全食时的地球"/}Image Credit: Mir 27 Crew; Copyright: CNES说明: 这是日食期间的地球景观。 {lamp/}原文:{mtitle title="Looking Back at an Eclipsed Earth"/}Image Credit: Mir 27 Crew; Copyright: CNESExplanation: Here is what the Earth looks like during asolar eclipse.Theshadowof theMoon can be seen darkening part ofEarth. This shadow movedacross theEarth at nearly 2000 kilometers per hour.Only observers near the center of thedark circle see a total solar eclipse -others see a partial eclipse where only part of theSun appears blocked by the Moon. This spectacular picture of the 1999 August 11solar eclipsewas one of the last evertaken from the Mir space station. The two bright spots that appear on the upper left are thought to beJupiter and Saturn.Mir was deorbited in acontrolled re-entry in 2001.A new solar eclipse will occur over North America in about two weeks.

(Earth During a Total Solar Eclipse)
{lamp/}原文:{mtitle title="Earth During a Total Solar Eclipse"/}Video Credit: GOES-16, ABI, NOAA, NASAExplanation: What does the Earth look like during a total solar eclipse? It appears dark in the region where people see the eclipse, because that's where the shadow of the Moon falls. The shadow spot rapidly shoots across the Earth at nearly 2,000 kilometers per hour, darkening locations in its path -- typically for only a few minutes -- before moving on.The featured video shows the Earth during the total solar eclipse earlier this month. The time-lapse sequence, taken from a geostationary satellite, starts with the Earth below showing night but the sun soon rises at the lower right. Clouds shift as day breaks over the blue planet.Suddenly the circular shadow of the Moon appears on the left and moves rapidly across South America, disappearing on the lower right. The video ends as nightfall begins again. The next total solar eclipse will occur next December -- but be visible only from parts of Antarctica.

(Anticrepuscular Rays Converge Opposite the Sun)
{lamp/}原文:{mtitle title="Anticrepuscular Rays Converge Opposite the Sun"/}Image Credit & Copyright: Juraj PatekarExplanation: Is there ever anything interesting to see in the direction opposite the Sun?Sometimes there is.Notable items include your own shadow, a shadow of the Moon during a total solar eclipse, a full moon -- in eclipse if the alignment's good enough, a full earth, planets at opposition, glints from planets, the gegenschein from interplanetary dust, the center of a rainbow, hall-of-mountain fogbows, an airplane glory, and something yet again different if your timing, clouds and Sun position are just right. This different effect starts with clouds near the Sun that are causing common crepuscular rays to stream through. In the featured rare image taken from an airplane in mid-April, these beams were caught converging 180 degrees around, on the opposite side of the sky from the Sun, where they are called anticrepuscular rays. Therefore, it may look like something bright is shining at the antisolar point near the image center, but actually it is reverse-shining because, from your direction, light is streaming in, not out.

(Cheering a Total Solar Eclipse)
(NOAA 美国海洋与太气总署){lamp/}原文:{mtitle title="Cheering a Total Solar Eclipse"/}Video Credit & Copyright: Associated Press, ExploratoriumExplanation: What would you do if you saw the Sun disappear? Quite possibly: cheer. That's what many exuberant sky watchers did across Indonesia during a totaleclipse of the Sun last week. There and then, the land and sky went dark during the day as our Sun disappeared for a few minutes behind our Moon. Many people watching knew they were witnessing a rare event, and their joyous exclamations can be heard on the featured video. What a far cry this reaction is from centuries ago, when more typical eclipse reactions derived from fear and worry. The video shows first shows a Sun only partly eclipsed by the Moon as totality approached. From many locations, foreground clouds on our Earth either obscured the view or made the view more interesting. The total eclipse was only visible from a narrow swath of Earth that included several Indonesian islands. At the same time, in the opposite direction, NASA's EPIC camera aboard NOAA's DSCOVR satellite captured the shadow of the Moon moving across the Earth.

(Like a Diamond in the Sky)
2012年11月17日:天空的钻石环-(Like a Diamond in the Sky)--原图下载{mtitle title="天空的钻石环"/}Image Credit &Copyright: Alex Cherney(Terrastro,TWAN)说明: 在广被期待的日全食降临时,一轮黝黑的太阳悬在澳洲. {lamp/}原文:{mtitle title="Like a Diamond in the Sky"/}Image Credit &Copyright: Alex Cherney(Terrastro,TWAN)Explanation: A dark Sunhung over Queensland, Australia on Wednesday morningduring a much anticipatedtotal solar eclipse.Storm clouds threatened to spoil theview along the northern coast, but minutes beforetotality the clouds parted.Streaming past the Moon's edge, the last direct raysof sunlight produced a gorgeousdiamond ring effect in this scenefrom Ellis Beach between Cairns and Port Douglas.Winking out in a moment, thediamond didn't last forever though. The area was plunged into darknessfor nearly 2 minutes as theMoon's shadowswept off shore toward Australia'sGreatBarrier Reef and out into the southern Pacific.Ranging from 1/4000 to 1/15 seconds long, five separate exposureswere blended in the image to create a presentation similarto the breathtakingvisual experience of the eclipse.
